2016 FIATA World Congress Dublin confirms new speakers
FIATA World Congress 2016 is delighted to announce an updated speaker programme as the countdown continues to this year’s Congress in Dublin, Ireland from October 3 – 8. Over 30 global Speakers will share their innovate ideas and offer insightful opinions on topics of global relevance affecting freight transport, logistics and international trade.
Keynote speakers on the opening day of the conference on October 5 include Robert Van de Weg, Senior Vice President Sales of AirBridgeCargo Airlines, and Umberto de Pretto, Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union, who will address Congress on the subject of ‘Working Smart – World Solutions to Traders’.
The opening day’s conference will then break into simultaneous Regional Leaders’ Dialogue sessions, representing Africa/ Middle-East, Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe, before concluding with FIATA’s Advisory Body Legal Matters session, featuring speakers Scott Megregian, Partner, K & L Gates, and Jake Storey, Strategic Advisor – Maritime Initiatives, TRACE International Ltd.
Other confirmed speakers include Susanne Aigner, Head of Unit Customs Legislation at the European Commission, with responsibility for the EU’s customs code and general legislation in this area, and Donia Hammami, Taxation, Customs and Trade Facilitation Policy Manager at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). They will speak at the session entitled, ‘Marking thoughtful policy choices: the Custom Affairs Institute (CAI) guides you through trade facilitation.’ This session will be guest moderated by Josephine Feehily, past Chairperson of Irish Revenue Commissioners and currently Chairperson of the Irish Policing Authority.
Innovation in technology is also up for discussion in the ‘Meet the experts: Managing technology with the advice of the FIATA Advisory Body Information Technology’ session which will feature Oliver Evans, from Matternet, who will speak about Drone Logistics.
FIATA World Congress Dublin 2016 previously announced that Mr Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), would be the guest of honour for the opening ceremony of Congress. Aligning with the Congress theme of Where Networking Comes Naturally, Ruth Waring of Labyrinth Logistics Consulting Ltd will speak about effective networking during the Opening Ceremony.
Important events will run right through the Congress. Day 3 will see particular significance as the public signature of the cooperation agreement on a new jointly-managed air cargo program between FIATA and IATA will take place during the Air Fright Institute session. Following this public signature there will be a few words to mark the occasion, given by the FIATA President and the CEO of IATA.
Key themes for Congress this year include competition compliance, customs and borders, innovation, multi-modal, regulation and security. There is also a focus on new technologies and Congress has attracted a number of software and technological partners who will exhibit in parallel which will be of interest to those firms seeking efficiencies and / or migration to the Cloud.

FIATA World Congress Dublin 2016 is delighted to announce that Mr Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), will be a guest of honour for the opening ceremony of Congress on October 5.
The city of Dublin, Ireland plays host to the FIATA 2016 World Congress which attracts up to 1,000 delegates and will take place this year from October 3 – 8 at the multi-award winning and iconic Convention Centre Dublin (CCD). Ireland’s industry representative body, the Irish International Freight Association (IIFA), is the local event organiser in co-operation with FIATA.
FIATA World Congress Dublin 2016 is an opportunity for C-suite executives and business owners from the global forwarding and logistics industry to gather in a single location for knowledge sharing, international networking and business development.

The Enthusiastic Promotion of FIATA 2016
The enthusiastic promotion of the 2016 FIATA World Congress Dublin continues. In recent months, Representatives have travelled to Zurich, Switzerland, San Antonio, Texas, USA and to locations throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom in order to spread the message.

FIATA host spring meetings each March at their headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. These meetings are attended by FIATA National Association representatives. A delegation from Ireland attended this event to participate in the different sessions and also to promote the FIATA World Congress to the assembled 239 participants from 51 countries. IIFA Executive Officer Seamus Kavanagh made two presentations during the weekend event. The first and most important was to the full assembled audience and focused on the highlights of Dublin City as an attraction for the Congress. He also encouraged all regular FIATA World Congress attendees to consider inviting a new colleague to join them in Dublin later this year, so that more Forwarders can experience what a FIATA World Congress is really about.
The present Secretary General of FIATA, Mr. Robert Voltman, is the CEO of the Transport Intermediaries Association of America. In order to promote FIATA’s interests in his home country, Mr. Voltman invited IIFA President Mr. Tom Thornton and IIFA Executive Officer Seamus Kavanagh to attend the TIA Capital Ideas Conference and Exhibition, held in San Antonio, Texas between 6th – 9th April 2016. IIFA showcased the FIATA World Congress in Dublin through networking at various sessions but primarily as part of the Exhibition Area of the TIA Conference. With over 1200 representatives from North America, Canada and Mexico in attendance, the team worked hard to make their mark on the event. Many Delegates could be seen adding promotional Irish shamrocks to their suits and Congress lanyards and significant interest was expressed in forming a TIA delegation to attend the FIATA World Congress in Dublin.
Closer to home, the Irish International Freight Association is working with fellow industry interest groups to promote the Congress to Delegates throughout Ireland. The Irish Exporters Association are facilitating IIFA with time to promote the Congress at its various shows and events throughout Ireland. IIFA have spoken at Supply Chain Ireland events nation-wide and also at strategic meetings with key stakeholder representatives.

Over the next few weeks, IIFA’s will continue international promotion of the Congress, both directly and with our International Partners. IIFA will travel to the Multi-Modal Exhibition show on Wednesday 11th May 2016. FIATA’s Regional Group for the Africa/ Middle East Region (RAME) will host a Field Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 19th – 22nd May 2016. Over 400 Delegates from the region are expected to attend the Field Meeting and IIFA’s FIATA partners will make presentations and promote the 2016 Dublin Congress at that event. On 7th June 2016, IIFA will speak at the British International Freight Association’s Northern Ireland regional meeting to update North of Ireland Forwarders on the Congress.

Networking comes naturally at FIATA 2016
The theme and focus of FIATA 2016 is “where networking comes naturally” as we realise that the largest conference in the world should be an ideal opportunity to forge new partnerships on a global scale.
October 3rd, Networking opportunities commence on the first day of the conference with early casual meet and greet in one of the Dublin’s most famous and iconic pubs, the Ferryman.
On October 4th there is a golf outing to one of Europe’s finest champion courses, the K Club. CNN recently voted the K Club as one of the top ten golf courses in the world; which hosted the very prestigious Ryder Cup in 2007. It is also located a mere 35km from Dublin City centre, a 30 minute coach ride for lucky delegates. There are over nine interactive galleries where you will be given an opportunity to walk the decks, explore the shipyard and get a vivid experience of what it was like to be on this iconic and tragic ship before she set sail on her maiden voyage.
On the evening of October 4th you are invited to a ‘Dublin Literary Pub Crawl’ where you get to tour world famous pubs of Dublin where Ireland’s most famous writers and poets once frequented. These included James Joyce, Brendan Behan, Samuel Beckett and William Butler Yeats.
The world congress will have a series of exciting and expert speakers giving pertinent talks on current hot topics in the international freight forwarding industry from October 5th to October 8th. Built into the programme schedule are a number of slots specifically dedicated to networking. For example on October 5th, lunch and networking will take place from 13.00 to 14.15 and there is another networking opportunity from 16.15 to 16.45.
